Rockdale is proud to announce upcoming Revitalization plans through our Highway 79 corridor.
Beginning in the Fall of 2020, Texas Department of Transportation will begin work on a Highway 79 Improvement Project spanning from the 1100 block of West Cameron to the Highway 77 overpass.
Over 16,000 vehicles per day travel through our city’s Highway 79 corridor.
The stretch of Highway 79 through the Historic Downtown District will also benefit from new sidewalks, improved parking, updated street lights and landscaping.
The City of Rockdale is also in the running for another grant which will partially fund a project which will revitalize our Main Street district with similar improvements.

Rockdale’s Old City Hall Available for Lease
Located along the Highway 79 Corridor in Historic Downtown, Rockdale’s original Town Hall, built in 1895, stands ready to welcome a new purpose.
This two-story building was awarded an historical marker by the Texas Historical Commission in 2005. It has 6,580 square feet of commercial space and is zoned Commercial – Central Area (CA).
The Old Town Hall structure is located on a 0.1148 acre parcel (Milam CAD 11523).
There is also available an adjacent 0.3673 acre parcel (Milam CAD 11607), directly behind, which is also zoned Commercial and has been cleared of the previous structure.
Over the past 125+ years, this historic structure has been used as the Town Hall, an Opera House, a Fire Hall, and most recently served as Rockdale’s Police Station and Jail.

The goal of this process is to connect with businesses and investors willing to provide the best overall proposal for the subject property. Highest consideration will be given to projects which create jobs and draw tourism to the City of Rockdale.
