Rockdale is proud to announce upcoming Revitalization plans through our Highway 79 corridor.
Beginning in the Fall of 2020, Texas Department of Transportation will begin work on a Highway 79 Improvement Project spanning from the 1100 block of West Cameron to the Highway 77 overpass.
Over 16,000 vehicles per day travel through our city’s Highway 79 corridor.
The stretch of Highway 79 through the Historic Downtown District will also benefit from new sidewalks, improved parking, updated street lights and landscaping.
The City of Rockdale is also in the running for another grant which will partially fund a project which will revitalize our Main Street district with similar improvements.

The goal of this process is to connect with businesses and investors willing to provide the best overall proposal for the subject property. Highest consideration will be given to projects which create jobs and draw tourism to the City of Rockdale.
Proposers must submit a business plan and timeline detailing the intended use of the site.

Rockdale’s Old City Hall Available for Sale
Located along the Highway 79 Corridor in Historic Downtown, Rockdale’s original Town Hall, built in 1895, stands ready to welcome a new purpose.
This two-story building was awarded an historical marker by the Texas Historical Commission in 2005. It has 6,580 square feet of commercial space and is zoned Commercial – Central Area (CA).
The Old Town Hall structure is located on a 0.1148 acre parcel (Milam CAD 11523 legal description Original Town Rockdale, Block 6, Lot 9, all of, and Lot 8, W 10 ft of) There is an active REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL with a deadline of August 27, 2020 at 4:00 pm.
A Pre-Proposal Open House/Tour is scheduled for Mon, August 3rd at 2:00pm

While price is a consideration, it is the goal of the City of Rockdale to award the Property to the individual, group or corporation which provides the best overall proposal for development of this location, and best meets the goals of Rockdale Municipal Development District’s Downtown Master Plan. Proposer must submit a business plan detailing the intended use of this site, including a timeline, with response. The business plan will be considered as a part of the evaluation of offers received. The City intends to enter into an agreement with the respondent whose proposal is deemed most advantageous to the City.
For additional consideration, proposals may include an option to also purchase the City-owned lot at 240 N. Burleson. This is an adjacent 0.3673 acre parcel (Milam CAD 11607 legal description: Original Town Rockdale, Block 6, Lots 10-13), directly behind Old City Hall, which is also zoned Commercial and has been cleared of the previous structure.
Per the Downtown Master Plan, Downtown Public Parking is a highly desirable feature.
Over the past 125+ years, this historic structure has been used as the Town Hall, an Opera House, a Fire Hall, and most recently served as Rockdale’s Police Station and Jail.
