Election and Appointment
The City Charter (PDF) provides for a City Council consisting of a mayor and six members. The mayor is elected at large, while three council members are elected each from the east and west wards. The City Council elects a mayor pro-tem to perform the duties of the mayor in the absence or disability of the mayor. The council also appoints members of the various city boards, committees and commissions.
Requirements
The mayor and council members serve three-year terms and must be:
- 21 years old
- Living in the district they represent
- Qualified voters of the State of Texas
- Residents of the city for at least 12 months prior to the election
